About

Dr. Robert Guarino is an experienced physician, breast pathologist, and medical educator whose career has been dedicated to diagnostic excellence and multidisciplinary care for patients with breast disease.

Raised in New Jersey in a hardworking family, Dr. Guarino demonstrated a strong commitment to academics from an early age, ranking seventh in his high school graduating class at Arthur L. Johnson Regional High School. He attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick on an athletic lacrosse scholarship and graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Arts in Biological Sciences and a pre-medical focus.

Dr. Guarino subsequently earned his medical degree from UMDNJ–New Jersey Medical School, now Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He completed four years of residency training in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology at RWJ/St. Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston, New Jersey, where he was selected to serve as Chief Resident during both his third and fourth years.

His specialized training continued at Mount Sinai Hospital and Medical Center in New York City, where he completed one year of fellowship training in oncologic pathology followed by an additional year devoted specifically to breast pathology.

In 2012, Dr. Guarino joined Staten Island University Hospital, now part of Northwell Health, to provide specialized breast pathology services. He has since become an integral member of the multidisciplinary breast care team, collaborating with specialists in breast surgery, imaging, medical oncology, radiation oncology, genetics, and patient navigation.

Education is another central part of his professional life. Dr. Guarino teaches pathology residents and serves as an assistant professor involved in the education of second-year medical students at SUNY Downstate.

He remains committed to staying current through medical literature, textbooks, and continuing medical education. For Dr. Guarino, professional success is ultimately measured by using years of specialized training to serve the community and contribute to positive patient outcomes.
